At the start of this breathtaking novel, Damen and Ever travel to Summerland in search of an antidote to reverse a powerful poison. But instead of the cure they seek, they find something far more sinister: the truth about their existence and the fate lying in wait of an immortals soul.
Now, with Damen fighting to save them from the Shadowland, Ever turns to magick, hoping to break Damen’s curse. Along the way Ever encounters the mysterious Jude, finding herself drawn to him in a way that will test her love for Damen like never before . . .
After reading Blue Moon, I was dieing to know what would happen in Shadowland – I had it pre-ordered for weeks before the release date, only to head to the book store ON release date to buy it! (Crazy I know.)
Blue Moon leaves us, wondering...Ever made a decision which effectively leaves her unable to exchange her DNA with that of the man she loves, Damon. Despite, the twins, whom warned her against it, Ever mixes her blood with the antidote to save Damon – at Roman's urgency. Why she chooses to listen to him, well – that's part of who Ever is, our very flawed lead character. Ever seems to, be like many people in the world, she kinda lacks common sense – which I find endearing (I know many people who lack common sense)!
Shadowland opens merely days after the ending of Blue Moon – Ever, having been withdrawn from Damon, with out explanation, finally, decides to tell Damon what happened and why she's been so distant. Damon being the strong person he is, who never seems to get mad at Ever, takes the news in stride.
As the story unfolds, Damon lets Ever into another realization he has had – that of Shadowland – a very real place which Damon is sure he's doomed Ever too, a place that he's determined to keep Ever from no matter what it takes. So, as Ever searches for an antidote to the antidote – Damon searches for a way to keep them from Shadowland.
Enter Jude, a carefree, surfer “dude” who, as luck would have it, offers Ever a job, after her aunt all but demands she find one, working in the towns Magick book store. For some reason, each time Ever sees Jude, her heart seems to beat faster and her cheeks turn pink, but how could she feel this way, she loves Damon?
Shadowland, immerses us back into Ever's world, from the first minute you pick up the book, you can't help but being awestruck by the amazing story telling of Ms. Noel – the atmosphere of Shadowland is not one of resolution, but rather tense difficulty. It's not a pleasant book to read, it's rot with emotional hardships, angst, anxiety and sadness. Shadowland is, I am hoping – a good “bridge” kind of a book...it has no real “ending,” it only leaves you with more, and more questions. Will Ever, ever come into herself, will she ever trust her love, will she ever trust herself? I can only hope that she does in Dark Flame, the next installment of the Immortals Series, which is due out in the Summer of 2010.
All in all, I love the way Alyson tells a story, and I will defiantly be picking up Dark Flame – I just hope that some of the questions are answered, and that Ever can decide to trust herself!
I give Shadowland a 3 stars!

ReplyDeleteI've read a ton of negative reviews for this book. I personally will not read it unless someone pays me to. I hated Blue Moon and Evermore was just okay.
ReplyDeleteI cannot stand the way Alyson writes and will forever deem her a terrible writer. I will not buy another book of hers. EVER.
However, I'm glad you liked it. At least one person did.
