The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had ~ Review

This book review was written by Aubrey - The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had Review
This book was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. After having read the back, it sounded a lot like a history book, not one I was sure I wanted to dive head first into, at that. (However, it was sent to us to review, so I wanted to at least give it a chance.) The first 20 pages or so, I tended to agree with my first assessment...a history book – um EAK! But then I started to really enjoy it and never wanted it to end! For me, it's a love story, with a historical twist, something I almost forgot about as I flipped the pages.

Synopsis taken via GoodReads:

The last thing Harry “Dit” Sims expects when Emma Walker comes to town isto become friends. Proper -talking, brainy Emma doesn’t play baseball or fishtoo well, but she sure makes Dit think, especially about the differences between black and white. But soon Dit is thinking about a whole lot more when the town barber, who is black, is put on trial for a terrible crime. Together Dit and Emma come up with a daring plan to save him from the unthinkable.

Set in 1917 and inspired by the author’s true family history, this is the
poignant story of a remarkable friendship and the perils of small-town justice

I know from school, at least last year, a bit about this era – though, only though text books. We learned basically about the wars, but nothing I could put a connection to, or relate to really - just the basic history lesson. With in the pages of The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had, I found the characters as well as the setting, something I could relate to – almost as though I could put myself into Dit's shoes.

The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had, was quite good, I am, in the end glad I picked it up, with in the last few chapters I was crying my eyes out, the ending being something unexpected it left me wanting...wanting more! I sure hope that Kristin Levine decides to continue with another book to continue the tail of Dit and Emma – I for one want to know where there life leads them, do they ever meet again?

I give The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had, a 4 stars and will be sure to keep an eye out for another book written by Kristin Levine.
