I Kissed a Zombie, and I Liked It by Adam Selzer - A Mini

A "Mini" is a new concept that I am going to try, you know how sometimes you read a book, like it, but don't always have a ton to say about it, but yet you feel like you SHOULD say something...A Mini is just a short review, with synopsis of books I have read, that I want to share with you, yet don't feel enough one way or the other to write a LONG review (and we all know how long winded I can be.)

Today's Mini is -

I Kissed a Zombie, and I Liked It by Adam Selzer

Synopsis via goodreads -
Algonquin "Alley" Rhodes, the high school newspaper’s music critic, meets an intriguing singer, Doug, while reviewing a gig. He's a weird-looking guy—goth, but he seems sincere about it, like maybe he was into it back before it was cool. She introduces herself after the set, asking if he lives in Cornersville, and he replies, in his slow, quiet murmur, "Well, I don't really live there, exactly. . . ."

When Alley and Doug start dating, Alley is falling so hard she doesn’t notice a few odd signs: he never changes clothes, his head is a funny shape, and he says practically nothing out loud. Finally Marie, the school paper's fashion editor, points out the obvious: Doug isn't just a really sincere goth. He’s a zombie. Horrified that her feelings could have allowed her to overlook such a flaw, Alley breaks up with Doug, but learns that zombies are awfully hard to get rid of—at the same time she learns that vampires, a group as tightly-knit as the mafia, don’t think much of music critics who make fun of vampires in reviews. . . .
First off, I have to say that this book is one of those one's you should pick up when you want something, short, sweet and totally entertaining. It's a quick read, only being about 200 pages, I was able to read it in only a few hours – I did feel like the character development suffered a bit due to the shortness.

With that being said however, I never wanted for a reason to keep turning the pages, this book has lots of spunk, and a quirky story line...I enjoyed the exchanges between the characters quite a bit!

Bottom line
– For me, it's a 3 mushrooms book, I wish there was a bit more info on the characters, so I could connect with them a bit more. However what it lacked a bit in character development, it made up for it in quick wit and sassy comment. If your looking for a light read, with a paranormal twist, this is a good one to pick up. I enjoyed it! I will definitely be keeping my eye on Selzer, he's got an awesome imagination!

  1. What a great mini review! I really do like the sound of this book and with it being light and short it's the perfect book to read on the train. :) The cover is just so fun and a little bit freaky.

  9. I think I want to read this book solely for the cover & title - is that bad? It sounds fun and harmless. I like the concept of the 'Mini'!
