What is your blog about:
Once Upon a Bookcase is my second review blog, with a focus of YA fiction of any genre.
Interesting things about your blog we might not know:
Once Upon a Bookcase was originally created in June 2009 to hold Sex in Teen Lit Month, after a discussion on Ink and Paper - my first review blog focusing on Fantasy - about what people thought of sex in YA. During the month, I discovered a love for YA novels outside the genre of fantasy, and have carried on my recording the books I read in the YA category on this blog.
What, if any, influence has music had on your blog:
To be honest, music hasn’t had any influence on my actual blog. However I am taking part in the 1010 Reading Challenge, and one of the categories I’m going for is Books about Music, so I’ll be reading books such as Guitar Girl by Sarra Manning and How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo for that.
What about on your life:
Up until roughly two years ago, music was a big part of my life. When education and money issues got in the way, I had to stop, but I used to go to a lot of gigs in Kent and London. Some friends of mine were in a punk rock band, so I used to go and see them fairly often. They were kind enough to ask me to run their online Street Team to encourage and help their fans to promote them, which was such good fun! I made a fair few friends from running the Street Team, and going to their gigs. It was brilliant on the occasions when I was guest listed, allowed back stage, and had songs dedicated to me. It was such a brilliant time; friends, laughs, and great music!
How often do you listen to music during your average day:
Not very much anymore. I’m a lot more sociable with my family than I used to be. If I wish to listen to music now, I have to go to my room to do it, or use my mp3 player. I can’t really catch up and chat with my family that way. Normally, I listen to music when cleaning and tidying, when cooking food, or on long car or train journeys. I’d say generally, I listen to music maybe 3-4 times a week, now.
What, if you created a song, would the title be? Would it be an instrumental or have words?
Oh wow, what a question! It would have lyrics, and it would be called... oh, this is hard, everything I think of has been done! My song would be called “When You Close Your Eyes”, and it would be a big, angry song about something from the past!
What's your favorite song, right now?
Right now, I would have to say it’s Love You Til the End by The Pogues! Such a lovely song, I first heard it when I saw the movie P.S. I Love You. It’s the one Gerard Butler is singing when he plays his guitar at home, and the one Hilary Swank has to sing at karaoke. It’s gorgeous!
(OMG I LOVE this song!)
Anything else you might like to add?
Music really is beautiful. Although I don’t get the opportunity to listen to it very much anymore, like books, I feel music can really take you away. I don’t think people really listen to songs as much as they should, but rather as just something to sing along to, but if you really listen, I think you’ll find some music is just so touching, and full of emotion.
I could not agree with you more there Jo - beautiful thought!
Thank you so much for joining us! :)
