Marshall Seaver is being haunted. In the first installment of this chillingly compelling trilogy, sixteen-year-old Marshall discovers that something beyond our world is after him. The eerie clues pile up quickly, and when people start dying, it’s clear whatever this isit’s huge.Where to begin with this review, you know I am not sure, this is a hard review for me to write, because honestly though 95% of it I was so confused, then when the pieces started coming together the “road” turned again and I was back to being more confused than ever!
Marshall has no idea what’s happening to him, but he’s soon convinced that it has something to do with his best friend Cooper, who’s been missing for over a week. Together with Coop’s sister, Marsh searches for the truth about what happened to his friend, ultimately uncovering something bigger than he could ever have imagined.
I will say that this book did a great job in giving me a horrible night's sleep, not nightmares per say but I was tossing and turning, unable to stop thinking about it or the creepiness it possesses, which if you read the forward is apparently what D.J. MacHale was going for!
It's hard to put my finger on exactly what The Light is about, the story is a-bit all over the place, and like I said before when you think you know what's going on, and the story starts making a bit of sense it takes another turn and your off on yet another road facing in the direct opposite way you thought you were going.
The characters were also kinda one sided, I was so hoping to find at least one to grab onto and enjoy, and though I did not fully fall in love with any of them Coop's sister, Sydney, was as close as I got, she's got a kind of dark side and her quick quips gave me a few smiles though out.
Bottom Line – if you enjoy teen horror, and books that leave you questioning everything, with plots and subplots galore The Light would be right up your alley, it's not a light read...and it will have you turning on the lights and searching your closet, just to be sure your not alone! I give The Light 2 mushrooms and hope that with the next installment in the trilogy we get some much needed answers to a plot riddled with questions! I was just to confused to enjoy it like I wanted to.
