No one at Kayla’s school knows she’s the famous Oracle of Dating—the anonymous queen of dating advice, given through her own Web site. Kayla doesn’t even have a boyfriend. Two relationship disasters were enough to make her focus on everyone else’s love life. But then her advice backfires on her own best friend. And Kayla starts to seriously obsess about Jared Stewart—the very cute, very mysterious new guy in school. Suddenly, the teen queen of advice needs her own oracle of dating--and she knows just where to find one...A book where teen's act like teens, where parents are not overly involved, but at least around and not the number one problem; how refreshing! The Oracle of Dating is a sassy, fun, unique ride – though it's a touch predictable at times, the characters and the amazing advice that Kayla dishes out made this one book I am glad I did not miss!
Kayla by day is your average teen, she's got lots of friends, but she's not ultra popular – she's dated a few guys, but not to many; but by night (or at least after school) she's the oracle, of good advice. With a website her sister helped her create, people in her school (mostly) whom need dating advice, seek our her "expert" advice on all things dating related. No one knows who she is, they only know that "the oracle" seems to give out, good, solid advice!
Kayla, even though she's not dated much, has a level head on her shoulder, relishes her role as the "oracle of dating," after all her goal in life is to become a relationship councilor, what better start can she get! She loves helping those around her, with her good advice, but mostly the secret to her success, is that she listens and is a wonderful observer of those around her.
From the outside everything is going great, though at times Kayla is lonely, not having a "guy" to call her own, she's made a promise to herself that, guys can wait – right now it's all about, school and her friends – until one day, her best friend Viv drops a message to the "oracle," and the advice Kayla gives, is based more on her own desires for her best friend's happiness than on the observations and information she's given.
Viv is supper happy though, so Kayla goes with it, until Viv's parents find out what she's up to, and Kayla is sure it's her bad advice is what leads to Viv's ultimate unhappiness. With that Kayla begins to doubt herself, her website, and her ability to give good advice, and puts "the oracle" out of business. At the same time, Jared seems to be on her mind more and more – and she just can't understand why...Kayla needs help, but who can the "oracle" of advice possibly turn to, especially when the "oracle" is out of business?
The Oracle of Dating is one book I am stoked to have read! It's unique, funny, playful and ultimately just a really enjoyable book about coming of age, learning to trust and love yourself! It's got everything, a realistic teen voice, with problems real teen's can relate to, yet it's sassy, funny and totally entertaining! I was drawn into the world with Kayla, I even was able to read though giving blood (something I usually can not read though, since I am to busy freaking out).
Bottom Line – The Oracle of Dating is a wonderful mix of, love, rock 'n roll, teen drama, and really good relationship advice that just about anyone could learn from! It's almost what I might call a ticklish read, it had me giggling – not just laughing but giggling! The "cast" of characters in this one were all unique and each brought a different edge to the story! All in all, a wonderful novel – that has some fun and perky messages, that it might just do us all some good to read more about, interwoven into the text! This is one book I am happy I did not miss out on! I cant wait to read more from Allison van Diepen I see there's a sequel to this one, I can't WAIT to read it! I give The Oracle of Dating a 4 mushrooms!

Sounds so cute! Not my usual type of book, but I could do with a nice, light read right now.

ReplyDeleteI am enjoying some of the Harlequin Teen books - I just got a copy of CARRIE PILBY which is coming out in july from them and it is SO funny and true to life. It's about a 19-year-old girl who's really nerdy and afraid to date, but she has to push herself. She slowly stops being so judgmental and almost enjoys herself, despite her big brain. I confess I read the original which was a chick lit book when I saw it was coming out again from harlequin teen, so I got the original but the new one is coming out in a month. I liked the Oracle of Dating a lot too and I think there's a sequel to it coming too?
