Reading Habits

Have you seen this around? I happened by Corrine's website (Lost for Words) and noticed she had it up, along with several other bloggers I visit including Kathy at Inside of a Dog and Morgan at Smitten With Books, I am sure there are others doing it too, so if you have please link me up, I would love to read what you have to say

So, here's some info on my own reading habits!

Do you snack while you read? If so, favourite reading snack:
Honestly, I don't - is that bad? Occasionally, but it's rare. I often read in bed and sleeping with crumbs is so not my idea of a good nights sleep!

What is your favourite drink while reading?
Sunkist, now the girl in the book I am reading right now (Something Like Fate) would say it's gonna rot out my gullet but alas, I am addicted!

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
Are you NUTS? NO, I do not, under any circumstances, mark in a book, I have been known to use note pads to write stuff, or goodreads to mark down quotes I want to remember - but NOPE, I don't/can't write in books...

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Book Marks for sure - I love the one's that are magnetic (my fav. is a unicorn), and I have one with Edward on it, and another from Avatar that I use all the time, I can't bring myself to turn down a page, and kinda throw a fit when Aubrey does! *Blush*

Fiction, non-fiction, or both?
Honestly, fiction is my passion - though I have been known to read a non-fiction book every now and then, just recently I read one on Meditation and another on Yoga - I also have a few on Wicca - not really a biography kinda girl, but I love poetry!

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
Um, I am assuming this question does NOT realize I have 2 kids! If it did, it would know that not only can I stop anywhere, I OFTEN have to! Though I hate it and try not to, I like ending at the END of a chapter.

Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
Um does under my car count? If so then YES! I actually threw a book under the car and um, pulled away from it - I did not hurt it, or anything but yeah; I get kinda in there with the characters sometimes!

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
No, usually I can figure it out with the text surrounding it.

What are you currently reading?
Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti, I just finished The Clearing by Heather Davis earlier today.

What is the last book you bought?
Honestly I need a good book buying spree, I have been SOO good recently I don't remember, I am saving for this weekend at the Book Festival, I can't WAIT! I get to meet Shelena Shorts and Jennifer Murgia *Fan girl squeal.* But I know I need to buy a few here soon, there are several new books coming out, that I can't WAIT to get my hands on!

Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
I am a one book type of girl...though I have been known to sit a book aside if something comes I CAN'T let sit till I am done, usually I read only one at a time! I wish sometimes I could read more but for me, if I don't give my full time and attention to one book it's like I am cheating on it...not allowing it to take up all my "reading time." (Gosh is that lame or what!)

Do you have a favourite time/place to read?
Bed, and at night is when I do 90% of my reading - after the kids are all tucked in, I pick up a book and you can usually find me still reading till around 1AM or so. Though, I also read in the bathroom, even 2 or 3 minutes is enough to read a page or two and with 2 kids...sometimes I need the escape! :)

Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
Honestly, if it's a good, engaging read - I don't care one way or the other. I can see the draw in both; a good series allows you to see more of "the world" but a good stand alone can allow you to read it and not have to "wait around for more." Though sometimes the waiting is fun - other times not so much!

Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
Yes, if someone asks me for a recommendation I always have my "go to list" available - but I try to ask them what they like to read and such before giving any one book title, after all if you give someone a romance title and they hate reading about "love" then that's not going to play so well!

How do you organize your books? (by genre, title, author's last name, etc.)
Honestly, I have shelves of "read book's" and shelves that are devoted to my TBR piles (my TBR piles are like um, 5 shelves and growing) anyway; I have a system, the higher the book is on my shelves the lower it is in my TBR pile (for whatever reason, and yes I jump around but usually this works). They are also arranged by size - I hate messy and so this works, larger books are beside the wall and I work out with the smaller at the other end. Though this does not always work for series (I put them together always) it makes things look, to me, more aesthetically pleasing. You can actually see them here, yep I am NUTS I have even taken photo's of my shelves (though this was them back in Feb. the only thing different is there's more books now!)

I had such fun answering these random silly questions...if you decide to take part, please link me, I would love to see your answers, it's fun to see how weird I really am! :)

  4. Haha, those are awesome answers Jenn! I'm glad I'm not the only one who won't write in books! (I have lots of notebooks around, you'd think I was still in school with the amount of binders and notebooks that I have!)
As for unknown words, it's the anal person in me wanting to know the exact definition of the word rather than guessing it. Usually I'm right, but I like checking it out, because then it's a new word for me to use too! :)
