Either way you look at it; it's scary, right? Especially when your a teen, looking at the life ahead of you. IF, Destiny is already decided, then – where's the free will? However, on the other hand, IF each decision we make, changes our path, what if you make the wrong choice?
The Crescent explores this question while intertwining a story of the supernatural. But because it's grounded with such a simple, realistic, and basic question – I always, while reading felt grounded.
Synopsis via goodreads:I was not entirely sure what to expect when I picked up The Crescent, from the synopsis, I felt as though there would be this intense love triangle, which there was; but it's a short book, so I feared that, Lacey would be falling in love not only with one boy, but with two rather quickly; and she did. There in lies my only criticism.
Becoming a werewolf is not an option for seventeen-year-old Lacey Quinn, but death can be a strong motivator. Lacey is so focused on her future that everyday life has passed her by. Counting down the days to her eighteenth birthday, Lacey is almost home free. But when she falls for the mysterious Alex Morris, she lands in the middle of an ancient war between two enemy wolf packs. Tempting dreams, tantalizing lies and a dangerous love triangle ensues leaving Lacey heartbroken and confused. Lacey's fate rests in the hands of Alex and Brandon, but both are pulling her strings for their own agendas. Even as she slips further into the dark world of werewolves, Lacey struggles to find the truth and save the only family she's ever know.
Alex, is strong, he wants to be sensitive, but honestly he came off controlling and stalkerish. Brandon, on the other hand is so aloof, you hardly even see him though out the whole book, yet the scenes he graces with his presence, are those I wanted to read more of, he's got a dignity to him, a strength, he's quiet, resigned to letting Lacey make her own choices about what's best for her. Yet at the same time pleading for there life together.
The fantasy element, and werewolf lore, in The Crescent was something totally different for me, Jordan Deen, defiantly draws you in, takes control of your mind, as well as your heart, and winds a story like no other out there. I only hope to learn more about this world in Half Moon, as well as learn more tantalizing details about Brandon.
Bottom Line – A nice start to what I hope to be a good series, Deen defiantly asks some tough questions in this book, and though I am not 100% sure I agree with her, as to if our destiny is predetermined or up to us, it allows for an interesting twist on this already interesting story. If you enjoy werewolves, this is one to pick up, I can't wait to read more, I give The Crescent 3 mushrooms, and will be waiting patiently for Half Moon!
