Synopsis via goodreads:A wicked twist, on an original and unique idea. Honestly, I don't think I have ever read a book with as much of an original story line as this one. It's tough to come up with something, original yet, not so far fetched that it's nearly implausible, or at least something that gives you enough to ground you, and allow the book to stick.
Stephanie Stewart didn't ask for her gift of guiding the deceased to the other side but she's stuck with it. Why can't dead people just follow that bright light and leave her alone? When Mr. Undead wants to use her special talent for his own evil purposes, her little gift becomes a major liability.
Crossed Out had that, it's original, and thick in it's plot, with just enough to allow the reader to stay grounded, JUST barely, which allowed the story to flow, into a world that's so far from our own, yet seemingly possible, all at the same time.
The ending threw me for a loop, though I had some idea's as to what would happen, and I did have it kinda figured out, it also left me with a bit of a surprise and somewhat of a shocker, I have a feeling that the beginning of the next book in the series (I hope this IS a series) will knock everyone's socks off. I have a HUGE feeling that, only SOME of the secrets were reveled and there's TONS more coming!
My one complaint with Crossed Out, is that I felt like the characters lacked some build up, as well as personality. Don't get me wrong Stephanie is a pretty cool girl and Dylan has some nice moves, but I felt like they lacked in personality. I mean, there's not much banter, back story – they felt kind of one dimensional, to me, when they were not talking about or dealing with the “super natural element” there seemed to not be much else to them...I hope we learn more about who they are!
Bottom Line – Crossed Out is a paranormal romance that you can sink your teeth into, it's got a nicely flowing plot, with pretty likable characters, which I hope we learn LOTS more about as we move forward! It's an easy read that only took me a few hours to complete, but with that being said it's a compelling story, with a neat, dark and delicious twist on what you might be thinking! I give it a 3 mushrooms and hope to read more soon!
