Synopsis via goodreads:
Eron De Marchelle isn't supposed to feel a connection. He is a Sandman, a supernatural being whose purpose is to seduce human charges to sleep. While he can communicate with his charges in their dreams, he isn't encouraged to--after all, getting too involved in one human's life would prevent him helping his other charges get their needed rest.
But he can't deny that he feels something for Julia. Julia, with her fiery red hair and her sad dreams. Just weeks ago, her boyfriend died in a car accident, and Eron can tell that she feels more alone than ever. Eron was human once too, many years ago, and he remembers how it felt to lose the one he loved. Eron has always felt protective of Julia . . . but now, when she seems to need him more than ever, he can't seem to reach her . . .
Sandmen are forbidden from communicating with humans outside their dreams. But will Eron be willing to risk everything for a chance to be with the person he loves?
It sounds amazing, doesn't it? And maybe my desires were to high, especially after reading what some of the others who have gotten it and read it before me on the tour, said about it, but I was let down, I wanted...but Sleepless did not deliver for me.
One thing I will say, is the idea's brought to this book were original and unique – I loved the idea of a Sandman, and Eron – well he's quiet the Sandman, but I loved him. With his charm, wit and character, he's the one that carried this book for me. Though even he, sadly was not enough.
Julia, well – I never felt myself liking her, even a little bit, I am sure we as the readers are supposed to fall in love with her and feel a bit “sorry” for her with all she's been though and how she choose to get though it, but I just felt like she fell flat.
Bottom Line – I did not fall in love with the characters or the story, the plot though full of opportunity seemed to pushy at times, and at others it seemed as entertaining as watching golf. I wanted more, from Julia especially, as well as the plot. Sadly, this was not a book I enjoyed. I give it 2 mushrooms because the idea's it possessed were so unique and refreshing – I also, like I said really enjoyed reading about Eron.

I kind of felt the same way about Fairy Tale. It just wasn't enough for me. It seemed superficial and flat. The way you feel about Julia is almost exactly how I felt about Morgan from Fairy Tale!
ReplyDeleteHave you read Sleepless by Terri Clark? Although the title is the same, the story is very different and I enjoyed it a lot.
I'm reading this one right now. I'm only on chapter 2 but we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the honest review!
ReplyDeleteAw, I was looking forward for this one. Too bad, great review, though.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm new here. I just want to say I'm really enjoying your honest reviews. Looking forward to the next one...
ReplyDeleteI guess after reading your review - I wasn't expecting much, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I LOVED this book! I found it very creative and unique. I agree Julia was not very likeable, but I felt her flaws made her a different kind of heroine and I enjoyed that. Not your ordinary novel - and the same goed for Fairy Tale. So many female fairy stories - but a male fairy? What a great idea! I enjoy the witty writing style as well.... I'm looking forward to her 3rd novel.
