Though Maddie has only known about her Minder abilities for about six months, she's been thrust head first into this world, into this new life. She's strong, and determined, honestly she's had to be, but with the love of her life beside her, she feels almost like she could take on the world – and sadly, she might have to in order to live the life that she deserves!
Synopsis via goodreads:Adversary dives deeper into the world that Kate Kaynak has created than Minders (Ganzfield, #1) did, revealing some riveting and treacherous secrets! Though, I have to tell you Adversary drove me a bit crazy!
The second book of the Ganzfield series. Things are more dangerous than they seem at Ganzfield, and not everyone will survive. Does Maddie have what it takes? See what happens next in the sequel to Minder.
Why you ask? Well, I kept wondering, WHY, WHY, WHY?! But, I can't tell you why!
Well I kinda can, in Minder we are introduced to Isaiah, remember? Well, in Adversary he becomes a much bigger threat, and for the life of me, while reading I just kept asking myself, why?
Yes, yes I know – we find out a bit as to why in Minder, but really...with the stuff going on in Adversary, I did not feel that could be it...you know, that nagging sensation you get while reading? Yeah, I had that – EAK I love AND hate that!
I can tell you, we do, while reading, find out the why's or at least more of them...though I still think secrets are lurking in the shadows, but I am not entirely sure they all have to do with Isaiah...
But anyway...if you have read this review up till now, your probably thinking I am WAY off my rocker, and your probably right...Kate has a way of totally throwing me off guard...and now she's done it again, here I thought I might get to read “that scene” then BAM – read the first chapter of Legacy and, I feel cheated and left precariously hanging off the edge of a cliff, again – having to have to wait for months to get the next book!
Sorry, sorry – I keep reverting to word vomit, I can't help it! Honestly, I will stop now, promise – but really, you should pick up Minder and now Adversary since it's out...then come back, email me – we should talk!
I do, instead of more word vomit, want to offer you something more about Kate's writing...Kate has a way of un-writing – while writing, (gosh this review is making less and less sense as I write it)...anyway, what I mean by that is, Kate does not do with the “dilly dally” of to much – she's a straight to the point author, she's detail oriented enough, so you get the idea of the place, the idea of what each person looks like...but really she leaves the details up to your imagination.
What Kate is amazing at, is not those things – what she's best at, is creating people; to where they jump off the page at you! Adversary has one of the largest “casts” of characters, I have ever read about...just sitting here I can come up with at least 10+ characters...and that I am sure is not all of them!
Yes, some of them are not main characters, some fade more into the background than others, but what's so great about them, is they are “themselves” each with an authentic voice, that is just there own – and though, I can't tell you there favorite songs, or even there favorite books or food, since that information is not in the book, I somehow feel like I could...just because I feel like I know them that well. Kate, has a knack with characterization, that's second to none.
Then you have the plot, but don't worry I will try not to revert back to talking in code, I will just say that, both Minder as well as Adversary, leave you holding your breath, while laughing out loud – Adversary especially had me laughing...Maddie is at one of her loneliest, weakest points, and she had me laughing...how that's possible, I am not at all sure...but it's true!
Bottom Line – Though not everyone survives Adversary, Ganzfield is still a school I want to attend, Maddie is a girl, I want as my friend...Adversary is intense, and unique in a way that's tough to explain (obviously)...the concepts of what makes kids like Maddie and Trevor possible, could – in the wrong hands be hard to understand much less comprehend, but with Kate Kaynak behind the proverbial wheel, they become glaringly easy to not only understand but I also felt like, hey – could this really happen? I give Adversary 4 mushrooms – I simply can not WAIT for Legacy, especially after reading the first chapter...Kate what are you doing to us, honestly?!
Buy, Borrow or Steal? With it's original concepts, dynamic and flawless writing, Adversary is a book, I am thrilled to have on my shelves...and you, especially if your a lover of all things original should too!

THANK YOU for reviewing, Jenn! I'm still grinning from reading it.
ReplyDeleteI'll link today's Disgruntled Bear over here. BTW, I can honestly say that I have never received a review with the word "vomit" used so frequently in it. :)
