Paranormalcy by Kiersten White - Reviw

Take me there....you might think with books, "taking you there" would be easy, but it's not. Feeling as though you have been "taken" to another place, another time, another world sometimes – is hard for a writer to accomplish; I mean, as people we are stuck here on earth, with our thoughts, feelings and fears holding us steadfast to this world....

And, sometimes you almost get there, your looking into the window of the world, the story – loving just about everything, but there's something, though you may not even be able to put your finger on it, holding you back, keeping you from fully "going there."

Paranormalcy was not like that, while reading it I was taken to another place, another world – I felt myself almost lifting from the earth, drifting into a new world, a world I felt as if, even for a short while – I inhabited, the world Kiersten White created became my new "world," my new "home."

I was no longer tied to the earth, tied to the feelings, and fears of this world, but transported into another realm, and along with it came the thoughts and fears of that world. I was consumed by Evie's life, like a drug addict looking for her next fix, and now that I have finished, instead of feeling the withdraw of Evie and her "world" - I feel as sense of peace, love with a sense that Evie, though I can no longer be in her world all the time, will travel with me, and she will become a part of mine – though me.
Synopsis via goodreads:
Sixteen-year-old Evie's job is bagging and tagging paranormals. Possessing the strange ability to see through their glamours, she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency. But when someone--or something--starts taking out the vamps, werewolves, and other odd beasties she's worked hard to help become productive members of society, she's got to figure it out before they all disappear and the world becomes utterly normal.

Normal is so overrated.
Honestly, if you could not tell already Paranomralcy rocked my SOCKS off....It's funny, eerie, and sad - but not in the way you might think...mostly Evie is sad, she's beautiful, strong, determined, yet also sad...So the book, especially in the beginning, has the air of sadness to it, but also had me laughing, which is a weird combination.

Though all the characters were amazing, I connected with Evie right away, her power, determination and shear will to survive, gave her an edge. It's odd reading about a girl who can knock the "bleep" out of someone, and be home for dinner. She's strong, yet she has a totally broken life, she's never known a real family, and the emptiness inside of her, threatens to overwhelm her. But, don't get me wrong, there's more inside little Evie than even she knows, but to find out what – you have to read the book!

Another character that drew me in from the very beginning was Lend – what a cool name right? (It means something, but to figure that out, you have to read the book!) Anyway, he's NOT one of those “bad boys” with a "good side" - Lend is all good, or mostly at least he IS a teenage boy, after all. He's got beauty inside of him that's limitless, he's alive with goodness, light and desires that only a writer with shear genius could have captured! His warmth radiated from him, so much I wanted to curl around the book, hoping to catch some of it! (This make him sound, totally perfect – he's not, he's real...if you know what I mean.)

And though I feel this book was character driven, the plot is something you just can't not talk about, it's original and strong; in my life, I often read about the same "things" over and over – werewolves, vampires...ect you get the picture, It's tough to come across a book with a new spin on the "old" topics, but never fear with Paranormalcy, Kiersten White delivers, with a plot that's multifaceted. She created layer on top of layer, almost as if she was creating the most delicious sandwich anyone has ever eaten, spicy, and new with flavors exploding not only in your mouth but seemingly taking over your whole body.

The Ending well, let me just say - the ending left me wanting more, because while I am totally content, I need more of Lend and Evie! That being said, it's not one of those, "OMG why do authors leave us hanging like that" kind of endings if you know what I mean, I was happy with where things left off, though 20 pages from the end I was SURE this would end in a CLIFF HANGER - I was pleasantly surprised.

Bottom Line - "Oh bleep," Kiersten White has an amazing talent, she unleashed the hounds with Paranormalcy, with a "world" like none other...which with all it's intricacies, and small little details, I never felt lost - only "found." Reading it was like, opening up a present on Christmas morning, to something you had no idea you even wanted, until you had it and then you knew it was perfect. Paranormalcy has that “real” feeling, that “it factor” that's tough to explain!

A new paranormal series, like NO other out there, and though this is just the first book, it's has kicked itself into high gear, honestly if I were a writer in the paranormal genera I would be worried, with series' like this one, it's going to only get harder and harder to get published!

I can't WAIT for the next book....I give Kiersten White and Paranormalcy 5++ stars, this one has earned a special place on my "best loved shelf" Now the LONG wait till late next year starts! Maybe we could hound her and they might push it up, ya think? (She is on twitter ya'll!)

Buy, Borrow or Steal? It's out now, so I ask you, what are you WAITING for?
